Keep the kiddos busy, engaged, and learning this spring break with our wonderfully delicious virtual spring break workshops! 

All programs are conducted LIVE on Zoom by our experienced and passionate chef instructors. Through step-by-step instruction, your chef-to-be will learn valuable life and cooking skills as they cook their way through 5-star menus inspired by the season. While learning and practicing new culinary skills, their chefs will also share industry knowledge and theory promoting a holistic learning environment. Both morning (10:00am – 12:30pm) and afternoon (1:00pm – 3:30pm) sessions are available. 

Zoom links, consolidated shopping lists, recipes, equipment needs, and set up instructions will be sent 1 week before your course. All savoury recipes will yield 4 servings to help with family meal prep!

At Rooks to Cooks we are dedicated to delivering the best experience possible. As such, we maintain a minimum 1:8 chef to student ratio and keep class sizes small to ensure optimal interaction and supervision. 

 

 

 

All recipes have vegetarian and nut free alternatives. 

Most recipes also have gluten-free and vegan substitutions. All substitutions are pre-listed in your program package.

HOMEMADE GNOCCHI

Soft, pillowy, and delicious, there is nothing better in this world than freshly made gnocchi. Let us open your child’s mind to the wonderful world of fresh pasta with this introductory gnocchi workshop. Under the direction and guidance of our pasta pro Chef Donna, your child will learn to prepare our signature ricotta gnocchi in a delectable ragu sauce made completely from scratch! MARVELOUS MACARONS

Our Marvelous Macarons workshop is back by popular demand! Who can resist these beautiful and popular French sandwich cookies? They are colourful, texturally sound and come in an endless supply of colours and flavours! Under the guidance and direction of our pastry expert, Chef Dharma, students will learn to make these elegant treats. The recipes featured in this workshop includes both the macaron shells and TWO delicious fillings: a decadent ganache and fluffy buttercream. Each student will leave with up to twenty-four macarons to munch on over the course of your families March break.

CHICKEN SHAWARMA WITH GARLIC SAUCE AND TABOULEH

Our perfect shawarma workshop will take you on a journey to the Middle East without leaving your home! Join Chef Donna as she guides your kids step by step to preparing this popular street food. Students will be making either chicken or chickpea shawarma, tabouleh salad, garlic sauce and no shawarma is complete without pickled veggies, all from scratch. There is nothing better in this world than freshly baked eclairs. The crisp and buttery choux paste shell, the sweet and fluffy cream and last, the rich and beautifully shiny chocolate glaze! Under the guidance and direction of our enthusiastic and experienced pastry chef, Chef Dharma, our students will learn to make, bake, fill and glaze their very own batch of fresh eclairs from the comfort of your own home. Recipes featured are our Signature pate au choux, vanilla Chantilly cream, and chocolate glaze. You will not want to miss this technical and tasty workshop!

PERFECT PIZZA WITH HOMEMADE CAESAR SALAD

Mamma Mia, did you say Pizza?! In our perfecting pizzas March break workshop, students will learn all the tricks of the trade behind preparing the perfect pizza. First, students will learn to prepare their very own pizza dough completely from scratch. As it rests, we will work on the sauce and get to practice our knife skills through the preparation of your toppings of choice! Last, we will assemble and bake our pizzas, providing our pizza pro, Chef Donna, an opportunity to guide the group through our final piece of the pizza pie workshop, a delicious Caesar salad. Each participant will leave with two medium pizzas and four servings of Caesar salad, lending to an excellent lunch for the family and or dinner prep for that evening. Do not delay, book today!

VANILLA SWISS ROLL WITH STRAWBERRY  BUTTERCREAM

Did you know a Swiss roll did not originate in Switzerland? These fun facts will be discussed during our Swiss roll workshop as well as how to make one! Our pastry pro Chef Dharma will teach your kids how to make all the components from scratch during this fun class. Students will make the sponge cake, strawberry jam and buttercream icing and then learn the assembly of this spiral shaped cake, of course they will also decorate their roll once complete. DELECTABLE DOUGHNUTS

Whether filled with jelly or glazed and topped with sprinkles, there is no debating whether doughnuts are D-LICIOUS! There is no better time than now to learn how to make your very own from the comfort of your own home. Under the guidance and direction of our very own doughnut expert, Chef Dharma, students will learn to make, fry, glaze and decorate a dozen fresh doughnuts. First, we will prepare our signature yeasted doughnut dough. While we let our dough rest and rise, we will prepare our glazes and toppings. Next, with the help of a parent or guardian, our students will roll, cut, and safely fry their doughnuts, ending things off for the day with glazing and decorating. MANGO POKE BOWL WITH HOMEMADE TERIYAKI SAUCE

Aloha! Check out our veggie-packed poke bowl workshop. Under the guidance of R2C pro-Chef Donna, students will learn how to prepare a Hawaiian-inspired poke bowl from scratch. They will build this colourful bowl from the bottom up, by making the rice, poke marinade, and teriyaki sauce. They will also have a chance to practice their knife skills when chopping all the ingredients; mango, avocado, red cabbage to name a few. Kids will make enough for four large bowls, great to have for lunch, dinner, or meal prep for the week. Book now to guarantee a spot!

BURGER AND FRIES

Veggie, beef, chicken and even turkey, there is no arguing that the burger is one of the most versatile menu items on the planet! In our Burgers and Fries 101 workshop, our students will learn all the tricks of the trade when preparing burger patties, fries and even aioli completely from scratch. Chef Donna will share her industry tips and tricks on how to prepare the perfectly shaped patties, crispiest French fries, and creamiest aioli in this innovative workshop. Vegan menus are available!

MINI CARAMEL CRUNCH CAKE

After years of requests, R2C is overjoyed to launch our very first Caramel Crunch Cake workshop! With the helpful guidance and direction of our cake expert Chef Dharma, students will prepare ten mini cakes. First, they will prepare the meringue discs and while baking will make a buttery caramel and fluffy whipped cream filling, finishing off the class with assembly.
