Age Disclaimer

Here at Rooks to Cooks, we believe “age is just a number”. We recognize and appreciate that maturity levels vary drastically between children and that your child’s age might not be the best indicator of their abilities. If your child wishes to participate in a session but they do not meet the minimum age requirements, do not fret! We are open to accepting them and would love to help work with you to determine whether or not taking part is the best decision for them. To inquire if this is indeed your child’s situation, please email Chef Shai at info@rookstocooks.ca to begin the discussion. We look forward to hearing from you!

Culinary style: Pastries and desserts!
Specialty Dish: On the savoury side, I love pasta! Something about that carb-y goodness is irresistible. It’s always my go to whenever I’m cooking at home.

When I was a teenager, I used to teach skiing to 3 & 4 year olds, most of whom had never tried the sport before! I then moved on to being a camp counselor at YMCA Camp Kitchikewana for a 2 summers. Since then, I discovered my passion for cooking and baking, and have been in the industry for 5 years. I have worked in both the savoury and sweet sides of the kitchen, and my latest role is a pastry cook at Canoe. Previously, I have worked at Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, and O&B Café Grill Blue Mountain.

My chefs mission is to bring the community together through cooking and baking.

A little about me: I like to split my time between Toronto and my cottage up near Collingwood. Some of my favorite activities are playing board games (Settlers of Catan is a favorite!), knitting, preserving and canning, exploring the outdoors and reading. My friends and family are very important to me, and I prize those relationships a lot. I make sure to spend as much time with them as possible, and I love to make everyone around me laugh. I have a chocolate lab named Wonka, who is 13 and a bit of a lovable grump.

When I’m in the kitchen, my aim is to bring people together over food. Whether that’s through canning enough blueberry jam to feed an army, baking a wedding cake for my sister, or trying to coordinate a Thanksgiving dinner for my extended family, I love to cook and bake for those I love.
