Rooks to Cooks FAQs

Where are you located?
We have multiple camp locations across the GTA. Each location has it’s own camp sessions schedule. Please visit our “Summer Camp Programs” page to view all our locations.
How many students are there in each camp session?

There is a maximum of 18 students per camp, so be sure to register quickly to secure a spot for your child.

How many staff members are there in each camp session?

There are 3 staff members and up to 2 interns/volunteers in each camp session. This means that we have at least a 1:6 staff to student supervision ratio at all times. 

Do I have to pack a lunch and snacks for my child?

Not at all! All snacks and lunches are included. We ask that you send your child with a reusable water bottle and / or any beverages they may want to drink throughout the day. They should also bring a hat and sunscreen for our scheduled outdoor time. If your child requires more than 1 snack in the morning and 1 snack in the afternoon, then we suggest packing some additional snacks to be safe. 

My child has an allergy/intolerance, can they still participate?

Absolutely! We do our best to accommodate any and all allergies/food intolerances.

Is your facility peanut and nut free?

YES! We do nut use any peanuts or nuts in any of our cooking and baking programs.

What do my children need to wear?

All children must wear closed-toed shoes and bring a hat for our scheduled outdoor time. A chef coat and apron, included in the cost of registration, will be worn during the course of the program.

Are there any other activities during the day other than cooking?

Yes! We take up to 2 breaks a day during which time we run a “game of the day” for our campers to join in on. If the game of the day doesn’t interest some campers, then they are more than welcome to free play using various arts and crafts materials, sports equipment, and puzzles in our “Box of Fun” OR they can bring a book or electronic device to play with during the break.

What does a typical day look like at camp?

Do you offer before and after care?

Yes we do! We offer before care as early as 7:30 and after care as late as 5:00 pm for an additional cost.

Do you offer a sibling discount?

No, due to our small classes we cannot offer a sibling discount.

What should I do if my child is a picky eater?

We are confident that we can inspire even the pickiest of eaters to try new foods. With that being said, and to be on the safe side, we would suggest packing an extra lunch and snack for your little one to ensure that they receive the necessary nutrients for the day.

Do we get the recipes at the end of the program?

Absolutely! You will receive the digital copy of the recipe package on the Saturday following your child’s camp session. If you have any difficulty in receiving the document, please check your junk mail and / or contact us immediately. We will make sure you get it!

Do you offer any transportation to and from camp?

No, we do not offer any transportation to and from camp.

What is included in the price of tuition?

-All lunches and snacks
-Your child’s uniform, consisting of a professional chef coat and apron
-All recipes used in the program

How many people can we bring to the pop-up restaurant?

Reservations for the pop-up restaurant are first come, first serve. We have a max capacity of 50 diners, so be sure to get your reservations in early in the week!

How does the camp challenge and support achievement and leadership?

Rooks to Cooks lessons are always hands-on, and with our small group sizes, our campers are guaranteed a thorough and intensive education. Each day, students take turns in the leadership role as the “Chef of the table” and the other members of the group will be the sous chefs. They all work together to complete their tasks.

How does the camp encourage involvement among parents?

At the end of each week, Rooks to Cooks transforms into our world-renowned pop-up restaurant, “Petit Chefs”. Here, our little chefs get to show off their new skills while they prepare and serve a 3-course tasting menu all on their own. Reservations for family and friends will be taken throughout the week, with the cost of the meal being $20.00 per person. The menu changes depending on the week and will be revealed each Wednesday. Just like any restaurant, we will accommodate all allergies and food aversions. The dining experience ends with a graduation ceremony where each student is given a certificate honouring their accomplishment.
Also, we are happy to share recipes with our students to try at home with family and friends.

When and how do I apply?

We can sign you up online right now. Just click on the “Register now” button, select your location, choose your session and pay!

Is there a waiting list?

Yes, we will be taking names for the waiting list. If a cancellation occurs, then we will invite the next child on the waiting list to sign up.
