Rooks to Cooks Virtual Academy

Our founder Shai Mandel, chef and certified teacher, is putting her teaching training to good use through the development of two groundbreaking programs: Brilliant Bakers and Foods of the World. These courses are inspired by REAL Ontario curriculum guidelines to help your child learn hands-on cooking and baking skills, while socializing with new friends AND secretly applying academic knowledge while schools are closed. Choose from two fun and delicious courses to engage your children’s minds and their appetites! Don’t miss out, only 8 spots per class! 

Recipes have been carefully selected to ensure ingredients are inexpensive, accessible and are easily substitutable. All recipes have vegetarian alternatives.

For children 9 and under we recommend some parental supervision

Brilliant Bakers 2.0

(Mondays June 1 to 22 or Wednesdays June 3 to 24)

We want to help bring math out of the classroom and into our kitchens in the tastiest way we know how. Join us for Brilliant Bakers! This hands-on baking course will not only equip your child with industry tested pastry knowledge and skills, they will also gain real world applications of mathematics and numeracy!

Our Brilliant Bakers program is designed to engage your young pastry chef’s mind while supplementing  what they’re learning in school with real world applications of math. Along with the teaching of 4 fantastic pastry recipes, we’ll practice and apply mental math, fractions, portions and measurements in the most delicious of ways. Your little chefs won’t even know they’re learning!

Foods of the World 2.0

(Tuesdays June 2 to 23)

Our Foods of the World course is designed to teach our students fundamental life and cooking skills while introducing them to new foods and flavours from around the world. Together we will explore 4 different cultures and cuisines, and learn more about the history and geography which has contributed to the recipes they create. While we travel around the world with our recipes, we’ll be using pantry staples and unique blends of ingredients and spices to bring these dishes to life. Together with our chef instructor, your child will expand their global knowledge, engage in discussions about the food we’re making and its origins, and of course take their skills to the next level.

 

June 2nd – Italy: Spring Risotto with a Side salad

June 9th – Poland: Potato & cheese pierogies with caramelized onions

June 16th – Thailand: Thai Fresh rolls with sweet chili dipping sauce

June 23rd – India: Potato & Pea Samosas with sweet & sour dipping sauce

Our founder and CEO, Chef Shai Mandel has been itching to get in on all the virtual fun! After countless requests from previous students, families and friends, she is pleased to offer a new master class, Signature Sweets! Having held both pastry chef and chef positions throughout her 12 years in the industry, Chef Shai has selected 4 of her most prized pastry recipes perfect for any occasion. These programs are designed to engage, inspire, and instill confidence, helping participants reach their fullest potential, in and out of the kitchen. Learn tricks of the trade, new culinary or pastry knowledge and skills, and Chef Shai’s secrets to accomplish the perfect execution each and every time.
