Our founder Shai Mandel, chef and certified teacher, is putting her teaching training to good use through the development of groundbreaking programs. These courses are inspired by REAL Ontario curriculum guidelines to help your child learn hands-on cooking and baking skills, while socializing with new friends AND secretly applying academic knowledge while schools are closed. Choose fun and delicious courses to engage your children’s minds and their appetites! Don’t miss out, only 8 spots per class! 


Recipes have been carefully selected to ensure ingredients are inexpensive, accessible and are easily substitutable. All recipes have vegetarian alternatives.

Brilliant Bakers 1.0, 2.0 & 3.0


Brilliant Bakers is the perfect balance between fun and educational! It was built for passionate bakers or baking enthusiasts who want to take their baking to the next level. It is designed to teach our students fundamental life and pastry skills while building confidence and self-sufficiency. Each week we will explore a new pastry recipe and learn the relevant pastry theory and knowledge pertaining to that baked good. This hands-on baking course will not only equip your child with industry tested pastry knowledge and skills, they will also gain real world applications of mathematics, numeracy, reading and writing! 

If this is your child’s first program, we recommend starting at 1.0 and working their way up.

The Breakfast Club 1.0 – Ages 7+

(Tuesdays July 7 to 28 or Thursdays July 9 to 30) 

Inspired by our popular YouTube show, The Lunch Club, our newest virtual program, The Breakfast Club, is your child’s ticket to mastering the foundations and preparation of breakfast foods. Eggs shmegs, The Breakfast Club is here to kick your traditional breakfast foods up a notch, educate on the wonderful world of breakfast cookery, and start your child’s day off right. Each week our exclusive Breakfast Club students will come together to learn and prepare new nutritious and delicious sweet and savoury breakfast recipes that will inspire and encourage independence and self-sufficiency. At the end of each class, your child will serve up a gourmet breakfast/brunch for the entire family. What better way than to kick start their day with our most innovative and delicious program yet!?

Foods of the World 1.0, 2.0 & 3.0


Our Foods of the World course is designed to teach our students fundamental life and cooking skills while introducing them to new foods and flavours from around the world. Together we will explore 4 different cultures and cuisines, and learn more about the history and geography which has contributed to the recipes they create. While we travel around the world with our recipes, we’ll be using pantry staples and unique blends of ingredients and spices to bring these dishes to life. Together with our chef instructor, your child will expand their global knowledge, engage in discussions about the food we’re making and its origins, and of course take their culinary skills to the next level. 

If this is your child’s first program, we recommend starting at 1.0 and working their way up.

Dorm Style Dinners – Ages 16 to 20

(Wednesdays July 8 to 29) 

After years of requests, Rooks to Cooks is pleased to announce the launch of Dorm Style Dinners, a weekly cooking course that will teach the culinary foundations required to ensure a smooth transition into independent living. Dorm Style Dinners is a fun and engaging cooking course that will help prepare your teen or young adult for their next phase of life, living – and cooking – on their own. With university and college around the corner, the time is NOW to equip your teen or young adult with the cooking skills, knowledge, independence and sense of responsibility that will help them reach success in their next phase of life. All recipes have been carefully selected to ensure each meal is cost conscious, can be prepared in a dorm style kitchen, using pantry staples and easy to access ingredients, and great for meal prepping. We can’t wait to get started!

Our founder and CEO, Chef Shai Mandel has been itching to get in on all the virtual fun! After countless requests from previous students, families and friends, she is pleased to offer a new master class, Signature Sweets! As a certified teacher and Chef, Chef Shai’s classes are hands on fun and highly informative. Having held both pastry chef and chef de cuisine positions throughout her 12 years in the industry, Chef Shai has selected 4 of her most prized pastry recipes perfect for any occasion. These programs are designed to engage, inspire, and instill confidence, helping participants reach their fullest potential in and out of the kitchen. Learn tricks of the trade, new pastry knowledge and skills, and Chef Shai’s secrets to accomplishing the perfect execution each and every time.
