ROOKS TO COOKS’ VIRTUAL SUMMER CULINARY CAMPS 

Looking to diversify your child’s summer programming? Look no further, Our virtual summer camps are back and better than ever! After a full year of experimenting with new virtual structures, menus, and class themes, we are proud to say we’ve perfected our curriculum and are beyond thrilled to release our most innovative and exciting programs to date!

All camps are conducted LIVE on Zoom by our experienced and passionate chef instructors. Through step-by-step instruction, your chef-to-be will learn valuable life and cooking skills as they cook their way through 5-star menus inspired by the season.  While learning and practicing new culinary skills, their chefs will also share industry knowledge and theory promoting a holistic learning environment. 

Zoom links, consolidated shopping lists, recipes, equipment needs, and set up instructions will be sent 2 weeks before your course. 

All camp options are half-day, conveniently offered in the morning from 10:00am – 12:30pm or afternoons from 1:00pm – 3:30pm in order to fit your family’s schedule. Prep time has been built into the program to help save parents the hassle.

To ensure your child receives the absolute best education, attention, and supervision, we have capped our camps at ONLY 14 students per week! They will have the chance to work with two of our experienced and passionate chef instructors maintaining our unparalleled 1:7 staff to student ratio.

Savoury camps will yield 4 portions of nutritionally balanced meals that can serve as either lunch (morning students) or dinner prep (afternoon students) for the entire family, thus offering the chance for your child to take on the meal prep role for your family that week! All pastry weeks will produce bakery-quality, delicious pastries to enjoy as dessert or share with the family, friends and neighbours. 

 

All savoury recipes and most pastry recipes have gluten-free, vegan and nut-free alternatives. 

All substitutions are pre-listed in your program package for your convenience.

JR vs SR CAMPS OPTIONS

Not sure whether your child is best suited for our JR or SR camps? Not to worry, we’re here to help you find the right program for your budding chef! Our JR camp curriculum has been built for entry level cooks looking to build on their skills and grow their passion for the culinary arts. Our SR camp curriculum is tailored for intermediate to advanced cooks looking to challenge themselves and expand their recipe repertoire. Beginners of any age are best suited for our JR camps with parental support. If you’re not sure where your child fits in, students ages 7-10 are recommended to join our JR group and teens ages 11 – 16 are recommended to join our SR group.  

Students 6 years and are welcome with 1:1 parental support at all times.

PARENTAL SUPERVISION & SUPPORT RECOMMENDATIONS 

Parental supervision and or support requirements are completely dependent on your child and your family’s comfortability with your child’s independence in the kitchen. Supervision and support requirements can vary from none to 1:1 support at all times, it simply depends on your child, their experience level, and confidence in the kitchen. With this being said, our goal first and foremost is the help our students become the most self-sufficient, independent, and confident they can be. As such, we build our programs in a way that limits parental involvement and empowers our students to take responsibility for themselves. 

The safety of our students is our top priority. To ensure our programming is as safe as possible we select cooking methods and recipes that limit your child’s exposure to high-risk equipment and activities. With this being said, cooking and baking come with an inherent risk that differs from other types of youth programming. As such, we have conveniently listed parental supervision and support recommendations on all recipes to help you and your family plan for your child’s participation and ensure they are as safe as can be during their time with us.

JUNE 21st – 25th: AROUND THE WORLD 

$200.00/week or $45.00/day (PER HOUSEHOLD)

Objective: To teach our campers fundamental life and cooking skills while introducing them to new foods and flavours from around the world. Through this program, they will develop a deeper appreciation for other cultures and their cuisines, as well as the practical cooking skills and knowledge needed to help prepare meals at home.

Around the World is back again, and ready to take virtual flight! This program will take our campers on a trip across the globe, visiting some of the most iconic food cultures in the world and featuring dishes from a new country each day! This program is the destination for learning proper knife skills, cooking techniques, diverse cooking methods, and how to work with a large variety of ingredients. 

Following this program, students will leave with the cooking skills and self-confidence to prepare and execute these vibrant recipes at home for your family. They will learn to incorporate new flavours into their daily meals and share their enthusiasm for global cuisine.

JUNE 28th – JULY 2nd: BUDDING BAKERS

$160/week or $45.00/day (PER HOUSEHOLD)

Objective: To teach our budding bakers foundational pastry and baking skills, while building their knowledge and self-confidence both in and out of the kitchen. Upon completing the program, campers will leave with the knowledge and skills to execute a wide range of sweet and savoury baked goods independently and a lifelong passion for the pastry arts. 

Budding bakers is a fun and hands-on sweet and savoury baking camp meant to engage your aspiring chefs with a passion for the sweet side of life. Our campers will develop their baking skills and learn how to make a wide range of summer-inspired baked goods from yeasted breads, cakes, pastries, and even ice cream sandwiches! Each day we will focus on new techniques and pastry theories executing recipes that utilize this new knowledge under the supervision and direction of our experienced chef instructors. Leaving the program, our bakers-to-be will know a wide range of baking techniques, the science behind the ratios that make their baked goods so delicious, and of course, the practical experience needed to recreate the magic at home!  Electric mixer with paddle attachment required

JULY 5th – 9th: SWEET AND SAVOURY 

$200/week or $45.00/day (PER HOUSEHOLD)

Objective:  To teach our campers both pastry and cooking skills, along with the culinary theory and knowledge to build their self-confidence both in and out of the kitchen. Upon completing the program, students will be empowered and excited to execute both sweet & savoury recipes at home, and have the skills necessary to help with family meals with ease. 

Can’t decide between a sweet snack or a savoury treat? With our Sweet & Savoury program, there’s no need to choose a side. During the week, your multi-talented chef-in-training will learn fundamental cooking and baking techniques, proper knife skills, and diverse cooking methods as they prepare a wide variety of both pastry and culinary menu items. Each day we will prepare both a sweet recipe and a savoury recipe that can be consumed for lunch (morning group) or even dinner prep (afternoon group). If your fanatic foodie has an interest in both the culinary and pastry arts, then this is the session for them. Sweet and Savoury is the best of both worlds, register today and secure your child’s spot before it’s too late!

Objective: To teach our campers advanced pastry skills and knowledge while building their confidence in themselves and their abilities. Upon completing this program, our campers will understand the foundations of pastry preparation and have the skills and confidence to tackle any recipe independently at home. 

This year we’re raising the bar in this advanced virtual pastry program with our most innovative and exciting curriculum yet! Perfecting Pastries is our comprehensive pastry program designed to inspire and challenge even the most experienced pastry enthusiasts out there! Each day a new pastry menu will be featured, including a wide range of recipes from confectionery items such as homemade marshmallows to summer-inspired pies and pastries. In the process, our chefs will educate on the importance of science in successful baking, and place an emphasis on teaching theory so your pastry-chef-to-be will know all the why’s behind baking, thereby ensuring their continued success in the kitchen. If your child has a passion for the pastry arts and the drive to perfect their craft, perfecting pastries is the perfect program for them! Don’t miss out and secure their spot today!

Inspired by our popular Around the World program, First Class is all about taking our culinary adventures to the next level. Campers will take a trip across the globe, visiting some of the most iconic food cultures in the world and featuring dishes from a new country each day! This program is the destination for learning proper knife skills, cooking techniques, diverse cooking methods, and how to work with a large variety of ingredients. 

Following this program, students will leave with the cooking skills and self-confidence to prepare and execute these vibrant recipes at home for your family. They will learn to incorporate new flavours into their daily meals and share their enthusiasm for global cuisine.
