ROOKS TO COOKS VIRTUAL SUMMER CAMP

After countless requests, Rooks to Cooks is pleased to announce the launch of our virtual summer camp program! For families looking to diversify their child’s summer programming with week long programs, our half day week long cooking programs are sure to satisfy. No matter your child’s current skills, learning goals and or interests, there is a program for them! 

To ensure your child receives the absolute best education, attention and supervision, we have capped our camps at ONLY 12 students per week! They will have the chance to work with two of our experienced and passionate chef instructors maintaining our supportive 1:6 staff to student ratio. 

All camps are half day, either mornings from 9:30am – 12:30pm or afternoons from 1:00pm – 4:00pm. Cleaning time has been built into the program to ensure campers take on the cleaning responsibilities following their participation. In the pursuit of promoting independence, self-sufficiency and encouraging our students to take an active role in supporting the family unit, all savoury morning camps will take care of lunch needs for the family ready in time for 12:30pm. All savoury afternoon camps will support the preparation of nutritious snack foods or dinner that the whole family can enjoy. All pastry weeks will produce high quality, delicious sweets to enjoy as dessert or share with the family, friends and neighbours. 

To ensure our programs are inclusive, nut free, gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian, and egg free substitutions have been proactively listed for all recipes possible. If you have a conflict not listed, no worries, please reach out and we will find a way to accommodate. 

Please feel free to check out our summer line up! ALL AGES programs are tailored for students ages 7+ and the Senior programs are tailored for students ages 10 – 16.

    Budding Bakers All ages (Ages 7+) – SOLD OUT  

    Budding Bakers Sr. (Ages 10 – 16) –  SOLD OUT

    Objective: To teach our budding bakers foundational pastry and baking skills, while building their knowledge and self-confidence both in and out of the kitchen. Upon completing the program, campers will leave with the knowledge and skills to execute these recipes at home and share their brilliant bakes with the family.

    Budding bakers is a fun and hands on baking camp meant to engage your aspiring chefs with a passion for the sweet side of life. Our campers will develop their baking skills and learn how to make a wide range of baked goods from yeasted breads, enriched doughs, pastries and more. Each day we will focus on new techniques and pastry theories. The campers will then execute recipes that utilize this new knowledge under the supervision and direction of our experienced chef instructors. Leaving the program, our pastry-chefs-to-be will know a wide range of baking techniques, the science behind the ratios that make their baked goods so delicious, and of course, the practical experience needed to recreate the magic at home!

    Objective: To teach our campers fundamental life and cooking skills while introducing them to new foods and flavours from around the world. Through this program, they will develop a deeper appreciation for other cultures and their cuisines, as well as the practical cooking skills and knowledge needed to help prepare meals at home.

    Around the World is back again, and ready to take virtual flight! This program will take our campers on a trip across the globe, visiting some of the most iconic food cultures in the world and featuring dishes from each cuisine. Explore recipes from Italy, Portugal, Greece, Morocco and Vietnam in this week-long adventure. This program is the destination for learning proper knife skills, cooking techniques and diverse cooking methods. 

     Following this program, students will leave with the cooking skills and self-confidence to prepare and execute these vibrant recipes at home for your family. They will learn to incorporate new flavours into their daily meals, and share their enthusiasm for global cuisine.

This belief inspired the creation of our newest and most innovative program yet — Cutting Edge Chefs! Whether your chef-to-be is interested in mastering knife skills, eager to have fun, learn about nutrition or are foodies who want to eat, Cutting Edge Chef’s is the program for them. 

    Through the hands-on preparation of 10+ recipes and under the guidance of our skilled and trained chef instructors, your child will be equipped with integral knife skills, as well as educated on basic kitchen safety and how to maintain ideal nutritional practices. Students will become increasingly more confident and skilled in knife work by slicing and dicing their way through the delicious and nutritious week!

    Objective: To teach our campers advanced pastry skills and knowledge while building their confidence in themselves and their abilities. Upon completing this program, our campers will understand the foundations of pastry preparation and have the skills to feel empowered to execute these recipes independently at home. 

    This year we’re raising the bar in this advanced virtual pastry program! Perfecting Pastries is designed to challenge your pastry-chef-in-training to prepare pastry recipes they wouldn’t have otherwise attempted on their own at home. From confectionary to perfectly flaky pie crust, your child will explore all that you can create with butter, sugar, flour and everything in-between! We will delve into the importance of science in successful baking, and we place an emphasis on teaching theory so your pastry-chef-to-be will know all the why’s behind baking thereby ensuring their continued success in the kitchen.

    Despite the advanced recipes this pastry program features, we also welcome beginners with parental support to the session. After a week of hands-on practice and learning about pastry theory, they will build confidence in themselves to take on new challenges. Our experienced chefs will be there to guide and support your aspiring pastry chef through learning all the tricks of the trade.

    Objective:  To teach our campers both pastry and cooking skills, along with the culinary theory and knowledge to build their self-confidence both in and out of the kitchen. Upon completing the program, students will be empowered and excited to execute both sweet & savoury recipes at home, and have the skills necessary to help cook dinner. 

    Can’t decide between a sweet snack or a savoury treat? With our Sweet & Savoury program, there’s no need to choose a side. During the week, your multi-talented chef-in-training will learn fundamental cooking and baking techniques, proper knife skills, and diverse cooking methods as they prepare a wide variety of both pastry and culinary menu items. Each day we will alternate between sweet and savoury recipes: Monday, Wednesday and Friday will be savoury, promoting the preparation of lunch for our campers and their families, while Tuesday and Thursday will satisfy their sweet tooth with 5 star pastry recipes. If your fanatic foodie has an interest in both the culinary and pastry arts, then this is the session for them.
