All of our workshops are conducted LIVE through Zoom and led by passionate and experienced chef instructors. These classes are hands-on, fun, and educational, and are a great way to build independence, self-sufficiency, and confidence!

Only 8 students per class, so don’t miss out and secure your spot today! 

 

All recipes have vegetarian and nut free alternatives. 

Most recipes also have gluten-free and vegan substitutions. All substitutions are pre-listed in your program package.

DECEMBER 2020 WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS 

All recipes have vegetarian and nut-free alternatives. Most recipes also have gluten-free and vegan substitutions.  

YULE LOG WORKSHOP (ALL AGES)

$ 35.00 CAD

The yule log (or bûche de Noël) is an elaborate holiday cake consisting of a rolled, filled sponge cake, frosted with chocolate buttercream to look just like tree bark. In this 2 hour workshop, participants will learn to make, bake, and decorate a beautiful chocolate yule log completely from scratch. First, participants will make and bake their sponge cake. From there, the class will prepare their delicious buttercream for frosting and decorating. After chilling the cakes in the freezer, participants will fill, roll, assemble, and frost their yule logs. While the logs rest in the fridge, our chef will demonstrate various options for decorations such as buttercream pine cones, moss, mushrooms, berries, and more! To finish, the group will frost and decorate their yule logs, leaving the class with a creation to be proud of. 

This workshop is perfect for passionate bakers of all ages! Students under 7 must be accompanied by an adult.

HOMEMADE CANDY CANE WORKSHOP (ALL AGES)

Nothing says the holidays like candy canes! So why not learn to make your own? In this 2 hour workshop, participants will learn just that. First, our chef will educate the group on the foundations of sugar work and candy making, discussing topics of temperature, the do’s and don’ts of candy making, and safety precautions of sugar work. From there, participants will prepare their molten sugar mixtures, and end off by colouring and adding flavour to their base candy. Next, our chef will guide the group as they pull their sugar, creating the optimal colour and texture for their candy canes. Lastly, the group will assemble and shape their candy canes, ending the class with up to 20 homemade candy canes and the knowledge and experience to recreate the magic next season!

This workshop is perfect for passionate bakers of all ages! Students 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

2 DAY GINGERBREAD HOUSE WORKSHOP (ALL AGES)

$ 70.00 CAD/2 CLASSES

In this 2-part weekend workshop, participants will learn to prepare, assemble, and decorate a show-stopping gingerbread house completely from scratch!

Day 1 will be to prepare, cut, and bake the gingerbread house components. First, our chef instructor will teach the group how to make our signature rolled gingerbread cookie dough. While the dough is chilling, participants will prepare their gingerbread house stencils and plan out their assembly. From there, participants will roll, cut, and bake their gingerbread house parts which will be used the following day. 

Day 2 is all about assembly and decoration. First, our chef will guide the group through the preparation of our signature royal icing recipe. Once the icing (a.k.a. cement) is complete, participants will assemble their gingerbread house structure and landscape. While the icing cement has time to dry, our chef will demonstrate various piping techniques and decoration options such as icicles, bricks, logs, windows, flooding techniques, and more. Students will have an array of options to choose from to design and build their personalized gingerbread house creation. The remaining time will be used to decorate as our chef is there to support, allowing participants to ask their chef questions and tips specific to their structure along the way. 

This workshop is perfect for passionate bakers of all ages! Students under 7 must be accompanied by an adult.

WINTER BREAK DAY CAMPS/WORKSHOPS

Keep the kiddos busy, engaged, and learning this winter break with our wonderfully delicious virtual winter break day camps! Whether you are looking for something fun to keep your child busy, or a day camp to jazz up their holiday season, Rooks to Cooks has got you covered. 

All camps are conducted LIVE on Zoom by our experienced and passionate chef instructors. Through step-by-step instruction, your chef-to-be will learn valuable life and cooking skills as they bake their way through innovative and delicious recipes inspired by the season. While learning and practicing new culinary skills, their chefs will also share industry knowledge and theory promoting a holistic learning environment. Both morning (10:00am – 12:00pm) and afternoon (1:00pm – 3:00pm) sessions are available. 

Zoom links, consolidated shopping lists, recipes, equipment needs, and set up instructions will be sent 1 week before your course. All savoury recipes will yield 4 servings to help with family meal prep!

At Rooks to Cooks we are dedicated to delivering the best experience possible. As such, we maintain a minimum 1:6 chef to student ratio and keep class sizes limited to 12 students to ensure optimal interaction and supervision.

GINGERBREAD LOVERS

Under the guidance and direction of our passionate and experienced chef instructors, campers will learn to prepare two of our favourite gingerbread recipes: Chef Shai’s Signature Gingerbread Loaf with Orange Frosting, and our Signature Ginger Snap Cookies.

SNOWFLAKE SUGAR COOKIES

Under the guidance and direction of our passionate and experienced chef instructors, campers will learn to make, bake, and decorate rolled sugar cookies using various piping and flooding techniques. Recipes featured are our Signature Rolled Sugar Cookies and Royal Icing

SNOWMAN CAKE POPS

Under the guidance and direction of our passionate and experienced chef instructors, campers will learn to make, bake, assemble and decorate the cutest snowman cake pops on the planet! Recipes featured are our Signature Sponge Cake and Vanilla Buttercream.
